Horizon House Senior Living, located in downtown Seattle, awarded Compass a $6,000 grant to support the agency’s Angle Lake affordable housing program. Horizon House is an apartment community that provides independent living, assisted living, and memory care options for Seattle-area seniors. Each year, the residents of Horizon House invite local organizations to apply for funding that will be used to meet the needs of low-income seniors in the area. Compass has a long-standing relationship with Horizon House, with over three years of consistent grant support. Past grants were used to support Nyer Urness House and Angle Lake.
Grant funds awarded in 2023 were used to purchase new furniture and other décor items such as lamps, plants, and wall art that have been placed in the common areas of Angle Lake. When Donna, Angle Lake’s Property Manager, was asked how the residents are enjoying the upgrades, this was her reply:
“My residents love the new furniture! They say it was a long time coming. They say it looks more homey and extremely welcoming. They usually gather later in the afternoon or early evening (now that the weather is hot) just trying to cool off and having a chat before they turn in for the night. They are very grateful and had asked me to extend their gratitude to the funders.”

In addition to continued grant support, Horizon House has expressed interest in hosting a supply drive for Compass programs, collecting essential hygiene, personal, or household items for Compass guests and residents. We look forward to deepening our relationship with Horizon House and hope for continued financial and in-kind support in the future.
