Compass Housing Alliance is pleased to announce that Mary Steele of Valtas Group will act as Interim Executive Director while we conduct a national search for our new ED.
Mary practiced law for 25 years at Davis Wright Tremaine, one of Seattle’s largest law firms. In 2010, she became the interim executive director of New Horizons, a faith-based homeless youth services organization. After taking the role of permanent executive director in 2011, Mary executed a successful capital campaign to open two emergency shelters. During her seven-year tenure, New Horizons tripled its budget and expanded Street Bean Coffee Roasters, a social venture that provides job training for homeless youth.
Since leaving New Horizons, Mary has been the interim executive director of a Seattle area food bank, overseeing a successful transition to new leadership. Mary is excited to join Compass Housing as we move into our 100th year of serving Seattle and surrounding communities. “Compass has an extraordinary legacy of service and innovation,” Mary says. “I am already impressed by the dedication of the staff and volunteers to this important work.”
The Board of Directors will now be turning their attention to launching the search for a permanent ED, with the goal to have permanent leadership in place by mid-2020.
